Gladstone Senedd
Welcome to our Gladstone Senedd.
Each class from Year 2 to Year 5 voted for their Senedd members at the start of the year. From Year 6, Jacob has been elected as our Senedd Chair, Sophia and Jac are our Vice-Chairs and Scarlett is the Senedd Secretary.
We are committed to promoting the work of the Children’s Commissioner for Wales, Rocio Cifuentes who helps all children in Wales to be happy, healthy and safe.
We promote the United Convention on the Rights of the Child – UNCRC. This is a list of all the rights that children have to be happy, healthy and safe.
What have we done this year?
We have looked at the UNCRC and agreed between us on the ‘rights’ we felt were most important to us at Gladstone. From this we have devised our ‘Gladstone Calendar of Rights’ where we promote a different article every month. This is proudly displayed in each classroom. We hold monthly assemblies to introduce the relevant article and discuss how this applies to life at Gladstone.
We have discussed with our classes what we felt we were doing well at Gladstone and what we felt needed improving. From this, we decided to work on improving lunchtime play and creating a playground that catered for many interests without costing too much money!
So far we have introduced a mindful colouring area and a skipping zone. We held an assembly to demonstrate different skipping steps and rules to ensure safety and the children are responsible for setting up the equipment at the beginning and end of lunch play. We are currently working on an iMovie demonstrating how to play traditional playground games.
